WAYS TO HELP

Parkland Rising is one of the most complex and multi-layered public art projects sponsored by Center for Neighborhoods’ (CFN) P.A.I.N.T. Project.  Its success is highly dependent on the community pooling her talents, resources, and energies.  Parkland is a community that has touched the lives of individuals living throughout Metro Louisville and the world.  If Parkland and West Louisville have significant meaning to you, Parkland Rising needs you.  Opportunities for involvement are listed on this page. Use our contact page to help or suggest other ideas for lending your support.

Organize

Are you good at bringing people together?  Can you inspire people to act? Are you a good communicator?  We need people and organizations for the following:

  • Form teams of 5 people responsible for getting 20 “We will rise again as…” stickers completed.
  • Invite groups to participate in clean-up days.
  • Plan your own neighborhood clean-up.
  • Enlist groups and individuals to collect plastic bottles.
  • Enlist groups to water and maintain container gardens.
  • Write blog posts.
  • Tweet project updates.
  • Record completed “We will rise again as…” stickers (creating an idea database)
  • Develop local & national media (TV, radio, & print) attention.

Ask

Do you have influence with local business owners? Can you identify candidates for in-kind and financial sponsorships? Is your finger on the pulse of local and national resources?  In-kind and/or financial sponsorship is needed (financial donations will be made directly to CFN, a 501c3 organization):

Financial Donations

  • Sponsorship of 8 Historical Garden Planters ($200 each)

In-Kind (Products/Services) Donations

  • Contractor(s) to complete 2nd story install on vacant building (approximately 8 hours on June 21st)
  • Use of sod cutter (4 hours)
  • Old white sheets & t-shirts
  • 12 strand black wrapped/insulated wire (500’)
  • Use of recycled pallets for making temporary work tables
  • Five empty refrigerator boxes.
  • 13 gallon & lawn  trash bags
  • Use of an empty garage or warehouse (3 days, June 18-20: in case of inclement weather)

Remember

Are you a local historian?  Do you have positive images of Parkland and Little Africa? Can you help young people tell/write stories of West Louisville’s past? A key component of Parkland Rising is to tell the story of Parkland through the eyes of its current & former residents. Eight photos will be transferred to ceramic tile and become the center piece for the Historical Container Gardens. We need the following:

  • Individuals, organizations, and business to donate copies of photos from Parkland's inception until the 1970's
  • A committee to focus on the collection of historical photos
  • A committee to select 16 photos to be voted on by the community to select the final 8 photos
  • Adult(s) to work with local youth to write the history behind 8 photos (100 words or less)
